Three years and nine months ago when I was a new mom to Dekker Drew we moved away from family to travel with Cody while he went through his apprenticeship. We moved into a trailer and made it our home to make it easier for moving from job to job. We have moved all over Southern and Northern CA during this. After almost three and a half years in our trailer we decided to do short term rentals. We moved a total of 10 times during all of this. Some of these moves were very short, but still moving is a lot of work.
We always talked about hopefully moving home one day, or near their but that always felt like a very long distance away. We wanted to be by family, but because we grew up in a small town we expected for this to happen at the very soonest whenever my husband was done with his apprenticeship.
Being away meant we were moving to towns we knew absolutely no one. I had two boys now and had to do pretty much do everything with them. Along the way we did meet great friends, but still nothing like living next to people you have known forever, cousins, parents, etc. We pushed through and definitely made the best out of every place we lived, and honestly I enjoyed it but I knew there would be a really great outcome to this. I knew some day our story would include living by family and friends.
Now only a month shy of him being done, and we are HOME. I honestly am still shocked that we were placed here, and that we get to stay here for really as long as we would like. We signed a year lease (which is big for us!), and we will be doing our 11th and final move during this apprenticeship to our hometown. There is nothing like having your people near you.
