I never imagined to be traveling around when I had a family. Making different spaces our home. Making memories, and building a life quit literally on the road.
In the past 3 years we have made a totally new town our new home 9 times. 9 times we moved, adjusted, and settled in 3 years. I’m writing this down and even more flabbergasted then I went into thinking about jotting my thoughts down. Some of these moves were big ones, others were small, but each one we’ve had to figure out our new normal.
In the past year we’ve had to explain to our oldest that we are moving.. again. Haha. This was super confusing for him to process, but we always remind him that our family is his home. How grateful he is to have a house, and always find something that we know he will love about the new place. This past move.. his excitement was all about him getting his very own bathroom. Yep, he was stoked!! Pretty funny my 3 year old would love something like that.
Remind him that it’s okay to miss the old, but something to be excited about is good! Change is good!! Good things will happen in our new home as well, but letting them be sad about the old is okay.
After we get settled I like to dive in and make memories. Find things the boys will love that could be a weekly thing. We have a park right by us and making them familiar with that has been a plus. I think this really helps my boys get excited for our new home.
Every move I keep everything I can the exact same. Schedules never change. Even their space, the first thing I do every time is set up their space first, because I always want them comfortable and feeling right at home.
This move to Santa Rosa, I could tell Dekker was having a hard time moving the first week, this was our first move from an apartment to another apartment. I’ve stuck to all these things and we have gotten over that hump thank goodness. Home is where your heart is around here! Cody told Dekker that this weekend and he kept that in his mind and sweetly came and said it to me and my heart just exploded.
