Will we have another baby?!

This is one hot topic that I get asked often.. Will you have another baby? Do you want to try for a girl? Or are you sad you didn’t have a girl?!

For the last question, it always makes me laugh when people ask me that. Maybe “typically” people want a girl for their second if they already have a boy, but to be completely honest I wanted another boy. Obviously I would have been happy with a girl, but I have always wanted two older boys.. which brings me to the first question.

When Cody and I first ever started talking about kids we both wanted three. Now that we have two I am not sure I want another. I am so content and full with these two right now that I am not sure we need one more. To be honest we have not really made up our minds, and I am not ready to fully commit to that decision ( if you know what I mean.. snip snip.. sorry Cody). I think I could handle another, but right now I am BUSY. These boys are so fun but so busy. I am also young, so that is another reason why I don’t think we should commit yet. If and I really do mean that If haha.. we do go for number three I am praying that is not for a few years. I want to be in a position where we are not traveling, and possibly by family.

On the topic of trying for a girl… I secretly have always wanted two older boys and a sis, but you can’t choose folks. I might try all the old wives tales if we get to that but would 100% be happy with being a boy mama. Tell me if you guys tried those and it worked or didn’t work!! I am not sure I would know what to do if I added a little girl. I know I was a pain as a kid so not sure I want that karma sent my way. Am I right?! Sorry mom.

NEW BLOG NAME!

If you have been following my blog for a while, or if you just began recently then you know that I used to be the line bride… and now you are being redirected to my new blog name BLAKE ASHLYN. This was a little bitter sweet to be honest, haha. I bought blakeashlyn.com about a year ago and it has taken me this long to finally do it.

I began this blog when I started traveling with my husband in a fifth wheel trailer while he went through a Lineman apprenticeship(reason why I was The Line Bride). I really thought we would be moving about every three months minimum, so I thought it would be fun to document where we went and show our family and friends. By the way we are still currently on this adventure.

The Line Bride quickly turned into me sharing about other things in our lives as well. I chose Blake Ashlyn because well, its me. And I don’t mean that only in the sense that, that is my actual name, BUT it is simple. Yes I may not always be , but for the most part I love the simple things.

This space has now grown into an outlet, community, and space where I love to connect with others and share what I love. I look forward to continuing getting to know you guys, and appreciate all the loveee you give me.

Easy go to outfit!

So happy it is Spring!! Although I started my first day of spring inside watching the rain most of the day I can not wait for sunshine. We are so close to the city, so this spring I am making it a mission to go explore it more often. Anyone else live so close to a beach or city but rarely make it there!? I have yet to go pick up some spring flowers…
which is a must. And my last thing on my list this Spring is DECLUTTER my life. Haha. Spring cleaning will definitely be in my future soon.

I love a casual relaxed look, and am always looking for pieces that can be worn multiple times with other pieces in my closet. I love that during Spring I am able to wear my go to outfits: T-shirt and jeans and throw on a cardigan if it’s chilly.

Why we love our Dock a Tot!

Schedules… consistency…. you have heard it all before right!? Kids need it. They thrive off of this. Our lifestyle makes it a little challenging for us to stick to these things, but we try our best to give them a schedule, consistency, familiarity, etc. Living this gypsy life… traveling and moving ALL THE TIME makes this hard.

Let’s dive into sleep. You’ve heard it hear before, but our family likes their sleep. Kanon was a little more challenging to sleep train, and I want to blame it on the traveling a lot, but who knows. If anyone has dealt with a baby not wanting to sleep it can be so draining. I was always so nervous to go stay with my in laws or parents because no one likes a screaming baby in the middle of the night. It got to a point where he slept great at home, but then anywhere else we went or stayed there would be no sleeping. This just wasn’t going to work for us because hellllo!! We don’t roll like that.

You guysss!! I have solved the problem. I can not say enough good things about our new Dock a Tot Grand. I have talked about using the dock a Tot deluxe, but the grand saved me. No joke. The day I got this I used it at my parents… praying this would be a miracle, and sure enough it was!! The biggest test was leaving Kanon over night last night for the second time ever, and my mom said he didn’t make a peep. It gives him a sense of security and comfort, and is so amazing for all of our traveling.

Obviously I love this for sleep but it’s also so great for lounging around, reading books, and transitioning your littles to a bigger bed. I am obsessed. Dekker is three and also loves this for lounging around. To say I’m hooked on the Dock A Tot Grand  is an understatement.

How did we pick our kids names!?

Picking your child’s name is SO hard. I mean they are going to live with this forever… so don’t mess up folks. Haha. I am so happy with my boys names and couldn’t have imagined picking anything else.

When I found out I was pregnant with Dekker I had never thought about names before really. I know people who have them picked out before they are even pregnant and I am so not that person. I am the most indecisive person, so this was going to be tough for more.  I always knew I didn’t want my children’s names to be something of ordinary, but it’s hard to keep up with it all I feel like. Right before we were about to do a gender reveal we had a name we both loved, Jax. & we had a girl name( but not sharing 🤦🏼‍♀️) We had planned that we would not be sharing any names but right when we found out it was a boy my husband told everyone we kind of had a set name, Jax. Instantly I was like the x and the s in our last name Smith clash and we quickly cut that out. So fast forward a few weeks, my husband and I laid in bed  while I was pregnant with Dekker trying so hard to come up with some names. I wanted options because I knew that if I picked one name it would bug me the whole time, and in the back of my head I would be asking myself a million times if I was sure. To avoid my head from running a million miles an hour we picked a few. I would ramble off lists that I found on line on Pinterest after searching “ original baby names” , “ modern Baby names” you name it… I searched it. From the get go we had the name Brody on the list but never a top contender( & I am SO glad that didn’t make the cut). I saw a picture on Pinterest of a Baby named Cannon and we LOVED it, so that quickly popped on our list. As I was rambling off names from bob to Maddox.. Decker came up on ONE list. Most of the list I had found were all so similar, but Decker was on one list! My husband instantly said “wait I kind of like that!” And I was like “ really… okay” After that he wouldn’t stop talking to me about this name, and it quickly became a name I loved too but was not willing to make the decision yet. Up to the point we went into the hospital we had three names and a for sure middle name of, Drew( after my father that passed away). I laid on the hospital bed getting ready to have my baby Boy and I was like Cody we need to decide on a name!! And we both knew what it was we wanted without even further discussing it,  Dekker Drew❤

Kanon was a little easier. Since it was on our list with Dekker we still LOVED it. We both felt it just went so well with Dekker and we never even thought about another name. Although my mind did wander…wondering if I was sure every single day! Haha. Kanon’s middle name was more of a challenge because we wanted it from my husbands side but there wasn’t much to choose from that we loved. We ended up going with Gane after my husbands dad, Gary Wayne and I am SO glad we did.

As I mentioned before we didn’t tell anyone Dekkers name before he was born and it was SO special when we did. As every person or group of people came into the room to meet him we told them his  sweet name❤ When Kanon was born  everyone pretty much knew besides his middle name and we told my in laws when they came into meet him that he was going to be named after my father in law.

A little dose of Dekker Drew

My sweet three year old, Dekker Drew. It has been a while since I talked about all the new things happening in this guys life. In the last six months he has shown us so much more of his personality, and it is so sweet.

This morning we were on a walk and we walked by someone and he just goes “hey!! good morning!!”. A couple minutes later we walk by another person and he goes “hello!” and the guy says hi back, and Dekker responds again ” It is so nice to meet you!” HE CRACKS ME UP! He is always doing things like this and it just lights up my life. He has always been so outgoing and it makes me so happy how friendly and polite he is becoming.

A little bit about this big guy:

He thinks it is the coolest thing I let him say “holy guacamole!” and “holy cow!”

He is obsessed with making his brother laugh.

His new favorite go to snack is apples dipped in peanut butter.

He is starting to try and spell his name and it is so cute.

He definitely has a little attitude.

He loves being outside doing tricks on his trampoline.

His favorite show right now is Super Why?

He does not have any interest in his bike.. we are still stuck on the fact he just wants to skip the bike and get a motorcycle… (help!?)

He loves getting his pictures taken.

We just started working on learning more about all the letters of the alphabet. Each day for the month of March we are going to focus on one letter. Join Us!! And if you have any interactive learning books your kids love comment below! Dekker loves to learn and gets so excited when he learns something new.

The beginning of our love story

Meet my ridiculously handsome hubby, Cody.

My husband and I don’t have this big fancy romantic love story, as much as I wish I could say it was love at first sight it just wasn’t haha.

It is really funny to me to look back and see how much we actually crossed paths in our lives. When I was a freshman in high school, Cody was a junior. We had similar friends and we can even talk about parties we were both at but never even spoke or recall one another being there. I was a cheerleader.. he was on the football team. We definitely knew who one another was but I guess we both had our eyes elsewhere and thank goodness because I believe that everything happens for a reason and there is a time and place.

Although I will say the first time we saw each other when we started our little fling I remember that moment like it were yesterday. We were both put into a room full of people and instantly gravitated towards each other . We had both recently got the new iPhone and thought it was the coolest thing ever.. Thank you Apple for bringing me to my amazing hubby ;P  But really, we saw each other and honestly had never really spoke much, and when we did everything was just so easy with him. He had the ability to keep a smile on my face and the chemistry was apparent.

I am SO thankful that we met when we did. Cody was out of high school and working in town, and I was still finishing high school. We quickly became inseparable. Spending as much time as we could together. Staying up late where I swore I wasn’t going to be able to keep my eyes open in class the next day. Weekends boating, going to the river, I swear we were always doing something adventurous. One of my favorite things about him is his love for adventure.

After about a year of dating we spent a lot of time doing “long distance”… boy is that fun! But hey what can I say, he was worth it all. All the nights I would stay up to chat with him while he lived in New Zealand, and all the road trips back and forth from San Diego(where I moved for college).

Fast forward FIVE years and look at us. Never in a million years would I imagine my life like this. We have two gorgeous boys; living this wild and adventurous life together traveling.

This guy is my fairytale and I wouldn’t want it any other way. xo
